Codit developed a secure API Management platform to broaden Baloise Insurance’s offerings to customers and partners, boost their revenue streams, all while ensuring an airtight security environment for sensitive data.
Challenge
Baloise Insurance decided that digitalization would be central in their growth strategy. However, with all the sensitive data they handle, they needed to ensure that they can guarantee their customers and partners nothing less than airtight security. On top of security, it was important for Baloise to stay in complete control of their back-end system. Codit stepped in to help them find the right solution to meet their criteria.
Baloise Insurance drove digital transformation in the conservative insurance industry by placing digitalization central in their growth strategy. To bring added value to their customers and access new markets, Baloise needed to find a way to bring more product offerings to the market, all while keeping sensitive data secure. “The challenge was to open up our data in a secure and controlled way,” said Stefan Holmstock, IT Architect at Baloise

Approach
To ensure high security and control, Codit and Baloise Insurance implemented a security layer to their Microsoft BizTalk Server integration platform — the backbone of their IT infrastructure. Baloise opted for Sentinet, the standard SOA governance and API Management solution, on which to build their product offerings. Codit was asked to perform a Proof of Concept. Codit quickly demonstrated that Sentinet would provide the security, visibility and governance functionality Baloise were looking for.
Baloise Insurance were looking for a flexible and lightweight SOA governance and API Management platform. Codit recommended Nevatech Sentinet and provided Baloise with a Proof of Concept that this product would match and exceed their criteria. “The PoC demonstrated that Sentinet would provide us with the security, visibility and governance functionality we were looking for — without disrupting operations,” said Stefan Holmstock, IT Architect, Baloise Insurance.
Results
The new API management project opened Baloise to new business partners, allowed them to penetrate new markets and enabled them to offer more value to their customers.
The Baloise Insurance – Codit partnership is still going strong, with the BizTalk and API management platforms of Baloise being monitored and maintained by Codit Customer Care. This frees up time for the Baloise team to do what they do best – grow their business.
To improve services and maximize the added-value towards customers, Baloise Insurance is expanding collaboration projects with its business partners, with five B2B partners quickly jumping on board.
Through API Management, Baloise Insurance has tapped into new markets and can now offer their customers more value with 94 new virtual services.
Since 2010, Baloise Insurance has relied on Codit Customer Care to monitor and manage their BizTalk Server integration environment. Since 2014, Codit has managed Baloise’s API Management platform.
